Details

The Gandioli Fumagalli Foundation Milan Internship provides the successful candidate of the University with financial assistance to travel to Milan, Italy, to participate in an internship program at a recognised cultural organisation by generous benefaction of the Annemarie and Arturo Gandioli Fumagalli Foundation (the Foundation). The cultural organisations can include the Poldi Pezzoli, Spazio Fitzcarraldo, Palazzo Bagatti-Valsecchi, Pinoteca di Brera, the Ambrosiana Library and others. The internship is available to staff and honorary associates and postgraduate students of the Faculty of Arts in Art History, Art Conservation, Italian, Classics and Archaeology at the University of Melbourne. The successful candidate will be awarded between $5,000 and $10,000 toward travel fares, living expenses, accommodation fees and any other fees associated with the internship. The successful candidate will need to pay any other costs associated with this internship from their own money.

Students will receive the contribution as a bursary which will be deposited into their bank account. Staff members will be assisted by their department in receiving the contribution toward travel fares, living expenses and accommodation fees.

Eligibility

To meet the eligibility requirements for the internship applicants must:

Be a Faculty of Arts academic staff member or a PHD or MA student including any honorary associates in Art History, Art Conservation, Italian, Classics and Archaeology at the University of Melbourne

Be  an Australian citizen or Australian Permanent Resident.

Have completed, at a high level of achievement, a tertiary course that is at least equivalent to an Australian four-year honours degree and be fluent in both written and spoken Italian.

Selection Process

The selection process will be undertaken by members of the Palladio Trust Committee which will include a representative of the Gandioli Fumagalli Foundation. Short listed candidates will asked to attend a formal interview which will be conducted in Italian.  The committee’s decision will be final and the University reserves the right not to make awards in any given year if it sees fit.

Selection Criteria

The following criteria will be used by the committee in selecting the successful candidate:

Preference will be given to applicants in the first two years (full time) of their candidacy/ or to staff members appointed at levels A, B and C; and to those who have an interest in Italian art and visual culture.

Essential:

Quality of the candidate, as judged by academic results, references and any publications. The committee will look for at least one strong academic reference; Quality of the proposed project to be undertaken at the cultural organisation in the specified time, as judged by the history and strengths of the cultural collection in relation to the applicant’s strengths and their proposed future career path.

Suitability of the candidate to contribute to the cultural organisation in terms of their personal qualities, e.g. team player, positive-outlook, self starter, and efficiency; Fluency in English; Fluency in both written and spoken Italian.

Be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Australia.
