Large-scale art commission for State Library Victoria – applications now open Proposal deadline 11th May 2018 ​State Library Victoria is calling on artists, graphic designers and illustrators to submit proposals for a large-scale artwork to be installed inside the Library’s new Russell Street entrance, opening this spring. Proposals are invited for artworks inspired by the Library’s extensive collection of items related to Victoria’s flora, fauna and natural history. The successful artist will be awarded $20,000 to produce an artwork measuring 29 metres wide and 5 metres high to be temporarily displayed in the new Russell Street Welcome Zone. Shortlisted proposals will be awarded $500 each. Applications Now Open for Gertrude Studios 2018

Gertrude Contemporary is pleased to announce that it is now accepting applications for the Gertrude Studio Program. The Gertrude Studio Program has been an integral component of the organisation since its founding over three decades ago. Gertrude has sixteen highly-subsidised artist studios for artists living and working in Melbourne (the studios are not residential), located in our new premises at 21-31 High Street, Preston South. Designed by Fitzroy-based architectural practice Edition Office, the new Gertrude houses two exhibition spaces, sixteen studios, shared communal spaces, workshop facilities and the organisation’s offices. Gertrude invites applications from artists of any generation and working in any medium to express their interest in the two-year program. The program is intended for professional artists working within the breadth of contemporary practice, including installation, video, painting, sculpture, photography, performance and dance. 2017 Banyule Award for Works on Paper

Calling all Artists – ENTRIES NOW OPEN.   TOTAL PRIZE POOL: $12,000 The Banyule Award for Works on Paper is awarded biennially to an outstanding contemporary work on paper.  It is an acquisitive prize, with the winning artwork entered into the Banyule Art Collection. The Banyule Art Collection is a contemporary collection of art works by leading and emerging Australian artists, including the likes of John Wolseley, Pat Brassington, Brook Andrew, Daniel Moynihan, John Nixon, and Peter Booth, just to name a few. While it includes a range of media it is distinguished by its collection of works on paper. The Banyule Award for Works on Paper capitalises upon this strength by developing this aspect of the collection further. Entries open for this year’s Bowness Photography Prize

Entries are now open for the William and Winifred Bowness Photography Prize. This year the winner of the prize will take home $30,000 – which is $5,000 more than previous years. For the first time in the history of the prize, Monash Gallery of Art will acquire the winning entry. Established by MGA Foundation in 2006 to promote excellence in photography, the prize is open to any Australian photographer – established or emerging – and all genres of photography are eligible, as long as the work has been produced in the past year. There are no thematic restrictions. The exhibition of finalists also highlights some of the most interesting work being created by Australian photographers today. In this respect, the Bowness Photography Prize has become an important annual survey of contemporary photography in Australia. Applications are now open local and international artists for the Box Hill Community Arts Centre (BHCAC) Artist in Residence Program 2017.  Artists can nominate the duration of the residency being from 1 – 12 months from January – December, 2018. 2017 Victorian Craft Awards open for applications

Artists are currently invited to submit entries until Monday 27 March. The Victorian Craft Awards is a biennial event facilitated by Craft Victoria and supported by the state government. Now in its second year, the Victorian Craft Awards present and celebrate excellence in contemporary craft practice. The Awards welcome applications from emerging, mid-career and established craftspeople across the state of Victoria. Applications of individual works and installations utilising craft skills, processes and materials are welcome. Established in 2015, this year the Awards will again select up to 100 artists for a finalists exhibition in June and July 2017.
