University of Sydney Visiting Research Fellowship Scheme

The School of Letters, Art and Media (SLAM) (including Art History) in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences offers a Visiting Research Fellowship Scheme. This scheme enables international and Australian scholars to undertake research for periods of normally no less than a fortnight and no more than 6 months in a well supported and engaged research environment.

Fellows are provided with office space, computer facilities and library borrowing privileges, as well as access to research libraries and University facilities and events. There is no stipend associated with the fellowship. No financial support is offered for travel or residential accommodation.

We welcome applications from researchers at every career stage from emergent to senior scholars. Fellows are expected to participate in the research cultures of SLAM and the Faculty through such activities as attending relevant research seminars, presenting work-in-progress and leading graduate masterclasses.

Selection Criteria

The Visiting Research Fellowship Scheme is competitively awarded with two application rounds a year in March and August.

Selection criteria include:

The scholarly merits of the proposed research;

The research standing of the applicant;

The strategic fit between the proposed research and current research activities or interests in the School.

Eligibility

Applicants must be able to demonstrate the relevance of their proposed research to current research activities or interests in the School. To this end, applicants must secure the active support of one or more colleagues in SLAM, who will stand as sponsors for the application.

Applicants must generally have at least a higher degree or equivalent professional experience, research and publications. International applicants are strongly encouraged. Proficiency in both written and spoken English is expected of all Fellows.

Applications for Fellowships in 2012 and 2013 close on 30 March 2012, and 31 August 2012.

In exceptional circumstances, out-of-cycle applications may be considered.
