For it’s fifth edition, BLINDSIDE’s annual project SCREEN SERIES features work by Italian artist Anna Franceschini, Australian artists Nathan Ceddia, Pip Ryan and Ryan Wilson, and Indonesian arts collective Tromarama. Curated by Anabelle Lacroix and Xanthe Dobbie, DISPLACED AGENCY will focus on the potential of the object.
Demonstration is often central to the moving image, especially in the context of an exchange of information – whether tangible (educational, physical) or intangible (experiential, philosophical). What happens when figures are removed and objects enliven as props given agency? Can the performative act be delegated? Objects in situations with other objects create tensions. Can the object exist independently from the subject? And if so, is it an object at all? Who or what is the performer, the object or its viewer?

About the artists
TROMARAMA is an artist collective composed of Febie Babyrose, Herbert Hans and Ruddy Hatumena, formed in 2006 in Bandung, Indonesia. Their work encompass video animation, sound and installation with solo exhibitions at Ark Galerie, Jakarta (2013), Tembi Contemporary, Jogjakarta (2011) and Mori Art Museum, Tokyo, Japan (2010) and numerous group exhibitions internationally such as the Asia Pacific triennial (QOMA, 2012) and the 3rd Asian Art Biennial, National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Taichung, Taiwan (2011). www.tromarama.com
ANNA FRANCESCHINI is an Italian artist based in Milan. Franceschini works conceptually across various mediums including video, sculpture and artist books and has exhibited with group and solo exhibitions in several institutions in Europe. Recent exhibition include: Museio, Bolzano and the Marco Museum in Rome. She has also undertaken residencies at ISCP, New York (2012–2013) and at the Rijksakademie, Amsterdam (2009–2010). www.annafranceschini.net
NATHAN CEDDIA is an Australian artist, film director and producer based in London, specialising in turning the ordinary into the extraordinary and taking the formal out of the normal. Nathan has created seminal music videos, as well as artworks with Pie School Graduation and Cooking on the Frankston line. www.nathanceddia.com
PIP RYAN is an Australia artist based in Melbourne who works across video and sculpture. Pip uses esoteric reconfigurations of everyday objects including toys to subvert the familiar; her practice explores themes of uncanny and absurd through the mediums of installation, sculpture and video. Recent exhibitions include: Creep Show at Strange Neighbour, Guess Who at c3 Gallery and Relive it Again at Daine Singer. RYAN WILSON is an interdisciplinary artist living and working in Melbourne. He has completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts (2012) and a Diploma of Visual arts (2009) from RMIT University. Since graduating, Recent exhibitions include Trophy Shop (Constance ARI), Museum of Abject Sentimentality (School of Art gallery, RMIT) and Plates (Trophy Shop).
