The Mysteries of Thera: Pompeii of the Bronze Age Aegean, Saturday August 24

Sometimes referred to as the mythical Atlantis, Thera (modern day Santorini) was buried by a volcanic eruption over 1600 years before Pompeii, preserving some of the most startling and exquisite artworks of the ancient world.

The Faculty of Arts at the University of Melbourne presents an afternoon of masterclasses on the religion, art and culture of this bronze age Aegean site with prominent experts Associate Professor Louise Hitchcock, and Dr Brent Davis.

Looking at Greek Vases, Sunday August 25

The Faculty of Arts at the University of Melbourne in partnership with the Ian Potter Museum of Art, presents one of the most highly regarded collections of classical antiquities in Australia – over 100 superb Greek vases from the thirteenth to the fourth centuries BCE – up close, in masterclasses by Greek vase authority Dr Heather Jackson, archaeologist Dr Andrew Jamieson and classicist Associate Professor Parshia Lee-Stecum.
