As part of the soon-to-open ‘Call of the Avant-Garde’ exhibition at Heide MoMA there are a series of floor talks whhere visitors can learn about Russian constructivist art and ideas and key works in the exhibition withy exhibiting artists, social commentators and curators. News | Dr Natasha Cica appointed as new Director and CEO of Heide MoMA

The Board of Directors at Heide Museum of Modern Art (Heide) have announced that will Dr Natasha Cica will take the helm at Heide as the new Director and CEO of the museum, following the departure of Kristy Grant last year. Dr Cica does not come directly from an art curatorial background and the press release describes her as a ‘thought leader’ (always a rather meaningless term in my opinion). Her educational background is more legal and policy focused than arts or curatorial (she is an adjunct professor in the ANU College of Law), but she certainly has a strong background in the cultural sector in Australia and internationally. News | Kirsty Grant to leave Heide MOMA at the end of 2016

News that after only two years, Kirsty Grant is to step down as director and CEO of Heide. Press release After two years in the role of Director and CEO of Heide Museum of Modern Art, Kirsty Grant will step down from the position in December 2016 in order to focus on freelance art and curatorial projects. At Heide, Kirsty has overseen a series of acclaimed exhibitions including Colour Sensation: The Works of Melinda Harper, Aleks Danko: My Fellow Aus-tra-aliens and the forthcoming O’Keeffe, Preston, Cossington Smith: Making Modernism. Prior to joining Heide, Kirsty held curatorial positions at the National Gallery of Victoria and the Queensland Art Gallery. Exhibition | Alex Selenitsch: Life/Text | Heide MOMA

From 24th October 2015 Though primarily known as a concrete poet, Alex Selenitsch works across a broad spectrum of disciplines from architecture to artist books, collage and sculpture. His practice in each of these areas is underpinned by a creative exploration of the notion of theme and variation, often using found materials and the pre-existing systems of language and mathematics. Selenitsch has a long connection to Heide initiated through his friendship with Sweeney Reed, the adopted son of John and Sunday Reed. In 1969 Sweeney’s Strines Gallery was the venue for Selenitsch’s debut exhibition of concrete poetry, the first show of its kind in Australia. Several of these early concrete poems feature in LIFE/TEXT together with other examples from the Heide Collection and select public and private collections, surveying five decades of Selenitsch’s career.
