Job | Director | Art Gallery of Ballarat

The AGB also has, and is increasingly building, a reputation for curating its own exhibitions as well as hosting national exhibitions attracting significant local and intrastate and interstate visitors.

The opportunity to be the next Director of the AGB presents at a very exciting time where the City of Ballarat is pursuing an arts and cultural agenda which aims to position Ballarat as the leading cultural destination for regional Australia with the AGB as the cornerstone.

This position offers an exciting prospect for an incoming Director to lead the AGB with a fresh perspective and extensive business acumen to drive future growth and development of the Gallery.

As the incoming Director you should bring demonstrated experience of curating captivating and didactic exhibitions that build and expand upon the dialogue and ideas already represented in the Gallery’s collection. Experience of working with a variety of art forms and mediums and the willingness to collaborate with other arts and cultural institutions within Ballarat and surrounding areas is highly desirable.

As Director you will need to be confident engaging with major stakeholders such as, national and international galleries, current and future donors and philanthropists, and State and Federal governments.  Nurturing philanthropic relationships and generating additional funding through grants and/or sponsorship and the ongoing development of the AGB retail income streams will be a key responsibility. The appointee should have an entrepreneurial mindset, strong negotiating skills and the ability to think analytically.
