Visiting Scholars Program at the Canadian Centre for Architecture

The Study Centre announces the 2011-2012 Visiting Scholars Program. The Program welcomes applications from scholars and architects conducting research at post-doctoral or more advanced academic levels. The Study Centre also offers a limited number of Associate Scholars positions to non-stipendiary residential fellows.

CCA and CCA Study Centre

The CCA is an international research centre and museum founded on the conviction that architecture is a public concern. Based on its extensive collections, the CCA is a leading voice in advancing knowledge, promoting public understanding, and widening thought and debate on the art of architecture, its history, theory, practice, and role in society today.

Inaugurated in 1997, the CCA Study Centre is an international institute for advanced research into all aspects of architectural thought, offering scholars the possibility to pursue a broad range of inquiry spanning the boundaries of the field and related disciplines. Scholars, architects, and students in residence are offered a unique study environment and access to the outstanding resources of the CCA Collection, which includes publications, conceptual studies, drawings, plans, models, prints, photographs, related artefacts and ephemera, archives and oral histories of individual architects.

Application
Applicants should submit a research proposal that takes into account the purpose of the Program and the scope of the CCA Collection; no other chronological or thematic restrictions apply. Appointments are made on the basis of an open process of application and selection by an international jury composed of scholars and architects. Criteria for selection are the quality and originality of the project, the scholarly record of the candidate, and the feasibility of the project in view of the resources of the CCA Collection. Residencies are granted for periods of one to six months. Visiting Scholars will receive competitive research stipends, financial support, logistical assistance for relocation, private offices, administrative and research assistance as needed.

Eligibility
The Study Centre welcomes proposals from scholars and architects regardless of nationality or any other non-academic factor. Applicants should have completed a PhD at the time of application (to be conferred by 14 January 2021); alternatively, they should provide evidence of significant scholarly achievements. Applications may be submitted in either English or French.

Deadline: The completed application package should be received by the Study Centre no later than Friday, 14 January 2021. Documents faxed or sent electronically will not be considered. Notification date: Spring 2011.
