In 1969 Charles Nodrum arrived from England and walked off the street and into a job at Joseph Brown’s prominent Melbourne art gallery. It was during this time that he began what was to become a life-long commitment to collecting the works of key Australian contemporary artists – among the first artists he collected were Sydney Ball, Mike Brown and Jon Balsaitis. Now one of Australia’s most recognised and important art dealers, since the early 1980s his gallery, Charles Nodrum Gallery in Richmond, has developed a reputation for presenting the work of leading Australian and International artists in both solo and thematically curated exhibitions.

Charles is an alumnus of La Trobe University where he majored in philosophy. Although philosophical problems still interest Charles art and art collecting have become his leading passion. In this exhibition Charles Nodrum selects favourite works from the La Trobe University art collection with a focus on portraiture and the figure. This exhibition coincides with Unearthed: Fifty years of Australian Landscape Art from the Charles Nodrum Collection curated by LUMA and presented at the Bundoora Homestead Art Centre (more detail on the website here).
