emaj (electronic Melbourne art journal) is the only online, refereed art history journal published in Australia. emaj aims to provide an international forum for the publication of original academic research in all areas and periods of art history. emaj welcomes monographic articles about specific artists or art collectives as well as thematic or theoretical analyses on aspects of art history. emaj is published annually by the Fine Arts Network and is edited by art history graduates and post-graduates from the University of Melbourne.

Our aim for the position of Sub-Editor is to provide an emerging editor / art historian with the opportunity to expand their editorial skills and professional development in the production of a high quality, online, academic publication. The Sub-Editor will work closely with the emaj editorial committee on a variety of tasks including administration, proof-reading, copy-editing and formatting.

Please note that this is a volunteer position. The minimum duration of appointment is May – December 2010, with an average of one hour time commitment required per week. Increased availability will be required for the 3 weeks preceding date of publication (December 2010).

Specifically we are looking for the following qualities:

• Editorial experience (including bibliographic formatting, image captions, footnote styles etc)
• Tertiary qualifications in Art History (minimum BA Hons)
• Excellent eye for detail and good communication skills
• Solid knowledge of MS Word, familiarity with Dreamweaver and Photoshop a bonus

Masters and Art History PhD candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. All expressions of interest will be considered by the emaj editorial board and applicants will be notified of the final selection by email in late April 2010. Please note this a Melbourne-based position due to the number of meetings required.
