The Sainsbury Sculpture Grant was established in memory of Madeline Olive Taylor through her estate, to provide financial support for emerging Australian artists and groups working in sculpture and/or installation to further their professional skills. The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia and UNSW Art & Design are partnering to offer a PhD Scholarship in the field of contemporary curatorial practice. Based in Sydney, this is a unique opportunity for an outstanding candidate to contribute to the vibrant and growing field of curatorial scholarship. The candidate will have extensive access to MCA staff, audiences, collections, archives and other resources to conduct their research. The $20,000 scholarship will be awarded in addition to an Australian Post Graduate Award (APA) scholarship, and consists of $15,000 stipend (tax exempt) over three years and $5,000 towards research expenses. The Monash University Prato Centre is once again offering its Italian residency for 3 months from September 2017. Open to Australian practitioners, the residency includes airfare, artist fee, studio and accommodation at the Monash University Prato Centre in Tuscany. Applications are welcomed from emerging and mid-career Australian artists, for a new project or inquiry that relates to the Prato context. News | Boost for Victoria’s Regional Galleries and Performing Arts centres
The Victorian Government seems determined to buck the federal trend of cutting arts funding by providing support for the arts across the state. Last week the state government announced funding for 90 independent arts companies (including organisations such as CCP that lost federal funding earlier in the year). Today, the Minister for Creative Industries, Martin Foley, announced funding for regional galleries across the state, saying ‘We want to ensure that all Victorians – no matter where they live – have the opportunity to unlock their creative potential and experience the benefits of creative activity. We are supporting some of our oldest art galleries and theatres alongside recently established and redeveloped cultural centres. Each year 4 x $5,000 scholarships are awarded to emerging artists to assist with the cost of overseas travel to: • undertake formal study or • undertake a residency or mentorship (planned program with a professional artist) or • undertake informal study for a planned research project.
