NETS Victoria has announced the appointment of Mardi Nowak as Director. From NETS Ms Nowak who trained as an artist has worked as a curator and gallery manager for more than 16 years in the public gallery and local government sector most recently at the Town Hall Gallery, Hawthorn. Over the past decade she has developed over 100 exhibitions and programs, working closely with gallery staff, artists and organisations on collection building, artist-in-residence programs and overseeing public art commissions. The Board of Directors at Heide Museum of Modern Art (Heide) have announced that will Dr Natasha Cica will take the helm at Heide as the new Director and CEO of the museum, following the departure of Kristy Grant last year. Dr Cica does not come directly from an art curatorial background and the press release describes her as a ‘thought leader’ (always a rather meaningless term in my opinion). Her educational background is more legal and policy focused than arts or curatorial (she is an adjunct professor in the ANU College of Law), but she certainly has a strong background in the cultural sector in Australia and internationally. News | Australian Catholic University appoints first curator

Furthering its commitment to celebrating and sharing art Australian Catholic University (ACU) has appointed Caroline Field as its first curator. In the newly-created role, Ms Field will be responsible for managing the University’s extensive art collection and documenting, developing and displaying the collection across each of its seven campuses. “The University is very fortunate to be holding such magnificent treasures and artworks,” Ms Field said. “We want to use and enliven them and we want to share and promote them with the University community and the general public.” Previously the Curator and Manager of the Deakin University art collection, Ms Field is a well-known figure in the Australian art community. News | Mami Kataoka appointed Artistic Director of 21st Biennale of Sydney

The Biennale of Sydney has announced that the artistic director for the 21st Biennale in 2018 will be Mami Kataoka.    Mami Kataoka, is the Chief Curator at the Mori Art Museum (MAM) in Tokyo, and she is the first curator from Asia to be appointed as Artistic Director of the Biennale of Sydney. She was one of thirteen eminent international advisors to this year’s 20th edition and already has strong connections to local curators and artist. The Greater Shepparton City Council has announced that Dr Rebecca Coates will take up the role of Director of Shepparton Art Museum (SAM). Dr Coates has been in the role of Acting Director since August 2015 and replaced Kirsten Paisley who left SAM to work for the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra.
