Call for Papers | FRANFEST (Feminist Renewal Art Network) Symposium: Feminism, Art and Activism 40 years | Art Gallery of South Australia

16-17 September 2017 | Art Gallery of South Australia Contemporary feminist practices: 16 September Gender and the Museum: 17 September FRANFest to be held in South Australia, is a month-long, multi-venue event highlighting the work of women (and gender-diverse and non-binary) artists from 25 August-24 September 2017.  The aim of the festival is to survey the history and contemporary practice of art that is aligned with feminist concerns and, where relevant, to acknowledge Adelaide-based developments. FRANFest commemorates an event 40 years ago, The Women’s Show (1977), an Adelaide-based, nation-wide, open-selection exhibition associated with second-wave feminism. Funding: Scholarships at the ARC Centre for the History of Emotions

ARC Centre of Excellence for the History of Emotions: Change Program Scholarships Scholarships are available in the new ARC Centre of Excellence for the History of Emotions, working with Professor David Lemmings in the OChange¹program. Value Opportunities include: ·      Full scholarship to the value of $26,000 per annum; or ·      Supplementary scholarship to the value of $5,500 per annum. Each scholarship offers the recipient a travel/accommodation allowance of up to $13,500 in order to conduct research in Europe. The type and number of scholarship(s) will be determined in consideration of the available funding and the number of suitable applications. Term Up to three years, with a possible six month extension. Norbert Elias, Emotional Styles, and Historical Change An Interdisciplinary Collaboratory at the ARC Centre of Excellence for the History of Emotions, Change Program University of Adelaide 14-15 June, 2011 This will be an international Collaboratory on the historical development of emotional styles in Europe and North America from medieval times to the present. The meeting will focus on the seminal ideas of the sociologist Norbert Elias about changes in emotions and society in his The Civilising Process (1939) and his work more generally. Contributions are sought from historians, sociologists, cultural theorists and others working in the field of the history of emotions, and may take the form of substantial historical essays or theoretical papers discussing alternative models and interpretations to those of Elias. News: Art Gallery of South Australia Announces New Director

Last week the Chairman of the Art Gallery of South Australia, Michael Abbott QC, announced that Nick Mitzevich would be the new Director of the Gallery. The previous director, Christopher Menz, resigned from the post in January this year. Nick Mitzevich is currently the Director of the University of Queensland Art Museum in Brisbane and was formerly Director of the Newcastle Region Art Gallery. At forty years old, Mr Mitzevich is the youngest person to assume the role of Director in the Art Gallery of South Australia’s 129 year history.
