Deadline for 2014 AAANZ Prizes extended to Friday 26 September Did you write a book in 2013? Or a catalogue? Was your PhD conferred? Nominations for AAANZ Book and PhD prizes are now open. Book Prize The annual Book and Journal Prizes are awarded at the conference and are keenly awaited by delegates and the publishing sector. We are the only body in Australasia to focus on art-historical studies, including museum catalogues and monographs. The categories cover catalogues, anthologies, work by an Indigenous Australian or New Zealand Maori, and artist lead projects. Art Association of Australia and New Zealand Annual Conference 5-8 December 2014 Launceston and Hobart, Tasmania The Annual Conference of the Art Association of Australia and New Zealand will be held in Launceston, Tasmania, 5-7 December 2014, with an optional day in Hobart, 8 December 2014. The conference will be based at the Inveresk Precinct, hosted by the University of Tasmania (Tasmanian College of the Arts and the School of Architecture and Design) and the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery. A Multitude of Images Professor David Joselit Individual tickets are available for David Joselit’s keynote lecture for the 2013 AAANZ conference. A multitude denotes a plurality of people or things. According to the Oxford English Dictionary it signifies ‘the character, quality, or condition of being many.’ The subject of this lecture will be the condition of being many with regard to images, for indeed it is possible to define modernism as a response to ‘a multitude of images.’ The lecture will range from early twentieth-century montage to recent practices of aggregating readymades among contemporary artists. The AAANZ conference committee is calling for volunteers to help with running the 2013 AAANZ conference INTER-DISCIPLINE to be held at the VCA on December 7-9, 2013. You can see more detail about the conference here. Volunteers are a vital part of the conference and in return are offered free registration, including the keynote lectures and the conference party on Sunday 8th December. Students in the fields of Architecture, Design Art, Art History and Theory, Curatorship and/or Museum Studies are particularly encouraged to apply. Volunteering offers you an opportunity to hear about the latest research in your area as well as to meet a range of researchers, artists and academics. A new competition for recent PhD Graduates to be judged on Saturday 7 December 2013, prior to the Annual AAANZ conference in Melbourne.   The outstanding presentation will receive $1000 sponsored by Taylor and Francis the new publisher of the AAANZ journal.
