BRYCE IVES
is the Director of the Gippsland Centre of Art and Design and the Ballarat Arts Academy at Federation University Australia. Federation University plays a unique role in regional Victoria for its studio-based undergraduate and graduate programs in visual arts, graphic and communication design, acting and music theatre.

Sought after as a theatre maker, facilitator, broadcaster, and writer; the breadth of Ives’ work is interdisciplinary. Ives successfully led the strategic development of Australia’s leading youth participation projects, including SYN Youth Media (2003 to 2007 as General Manager) and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s Heywire Regional Youth platform. Ives’ media career includes serving as Editor-in-Chief, producer, broadcaster, trainer and a board member. For over a decade Ives has worked with key ABC programs on radio and television, and has been a trusted consultant and advisor in the ABC Regional Division.

As Artistic Director of leading contemporary performance group – the Present Tense Ensemble – Ives has a longstanding artistic collaboration with Nathan Gilkes. Together they have created a distinct and recognised body of theatre performance work, training incursions, and workshops.

WRITING & CONCEPTS is a free public lecture series designed to explore the potential of writing as both a process and an outcome.

The lectures will alternate between practitioners for whom the written form is their primary professional output and practitioners whose work manifests as exhibitions or events within the domain of contemporary art.
