A celebration of Melbourne’s vibrant Pacific community, contemporary culture and art

Please join us at 11am for a traditional welcome and blessing ceremony, followed by morning tea and harmonies by the Pasefika Vitoria Choir, formed especially for this event.

This day of celebrations marks the opening of the exhibitions Siu i Moana: Reaching Across the Ocean, Greg Semu: The Raft of the Tagata Pasifika (People of the Pacific), Lisa Reihana: in Pursuit of Venus and the NGV Collection display, Art of the Pacific.

Program highlights include a contemporary performance by Tongan artist Ruha Fifita, collaborator with Robin White on the ngatu exhibition, Siu i Moana: Reaching Across the Ocean.

Hear from exhibiting artists Greg Semu, Lisa Reihana, Robin White, Ruha Fifita and visiting international lei makers. A drop by workshop will introduce NGV visitors to bilum weaving techniques, conducted by Papua New Guinean artist and elder Vicki Kinai.

Free event open to the whole community.

Date: Saturday 11th June 2016 11am–3pm
