Kelly Fliedner Kelly Fliedner has a diverse professional practice as a writer, curator, lecturer, producer and book club master. Her writing is varied, ranging from contemporary and art historical analysis, to a more creative style that lies somewhere between fictocriticism, experimental abstract poetry and traditional script writing. Kelly’s research has focused on publishing, experimental performance, music and interdisciplinary practices of artists, writers and musicians from the late 1970s and 80s, and her projects often incorporate (or riff off) works from these periods alongside contemporary examples. Kelly is currently working on a series of radio plays for the Next Wave Festival; is one of six Australian artists taking part of the Biennale of Sydney’s experimental writing project, The Bureau of Writing; and is developing On the Beach, a new podcast that focuses on the convergence of critical and creative discourses surrounding…

The upcoming issue of Seismopolite Journal of Art and Politics will discuss art’s relationship with political ecology: What role does art have to play – if any – under the precariously situated human and environmental consequences of neoliberalism and its political geography? Which potentials can be found in locally situated artistic discourses and re-imaginations of political ecology, for influencing global discourses on climate change? How can the dialogue between culturally and historically different ecological imaginaries and eco-philosophical traditions be significant in an era marked by unprecedented threats to the environment? Contributors from diverse disciplines are invited to submit essays, reviews or interviews that address the theme ‘Art and Political Ecology’, through a high variety of possible angles. CHASS Australia Prizes

Nominations are now open for CHASS (Council for Humanities and Social Sciences) Prizes for 2016. The Australia Prizes honour distinguished achievements by Australians working, studying, or training in the humanities, arts, and social sciences (HASS) sectors, including academics, practitioners, philanthropists, policy makers, and students. The CHASS Australia Prizes are intended to draw international attention to Australia’s achievements in HASS. In 2016, there will be four prizes. Two prizes are sponsored by Routledge ($3,500 each): one for a non-fiction book (e-books are acceptable) that enriches Australian cultural and intellectual life, the second for an exceptional artistic performance, exhibition, film, television show, play, composition or practical contribution to arts policy. The third prize ($2,000) is sponsored by Future Leaders for an individual under 35 years of age who is demonstrating leadership skill and potential in the arts, humanities and social sciences. The…
