From the editors:

This edition of Art Journal of the National Gallery of Victoria again ranges widely across the NGV’s collection, including investigations of two nineteenth-century Tibetan lama paintings, a prize-winning work by an early and little-known Australian female artist, the iconography of two carved Renaissance cassoni and the relationship of Australian artist Guy Stuart’s late 1960s practice to American Minimalism. For this issue we have also invited Melbourne-based artist Patrick Pound to reflect on his Gallery of air, 2013, one of the most popular and talked about works in the NGV’s recent Melbourne Now exhibition.

In an historic development in the long history of this publication, last year the digitisation of all back issues of Art Journal was completed. This mammoth undertaking by the NGV Publications department ensures that more than fifty years of groundbreaking NGV research and scholarship is now freely and easily available to all. Having overseen three editions Art Journal, we are handing over the editorship to our NGV colleagues Maggie Finch and Matthew Martin. We trust they will enjoy the role as much as we have.
