The Holmesglen Collection of Contemporary Art includes Viv Miller’s striking painting, Sunbeams and Rocks, 2011. When the artist started making work for the exhibition that included this painting, she acknowledged that the sun was a big subject (metaphorically and literally) to take on. “I was drawn to it because it seemed impossible to create pictures of it. It’s an omnipresent force that you can’t even look at. The most you can do is sneak a glance and feel its assault”. Subsequently, the sun has become a central motif in Miller’s iconography.

The artist draws on a range of source material for her work including romanticism, computer graphics, geometric abstraction, graphic art, illustration and animation. Her work is held in numerous public and private collections and she has exhibited throughout Australia and internationally.

Viv will be talking about her work and career in a free lunch time lecture at the Chadstone campus. Staff and students from all campuses are very welcome. The talk is free but bookings are essential.
