Call for Sessions

The call for sessions is now open.

The conference will focus on the theme of interdisciplinarity and explore the past, present, future of art, including its practices, threats and histories. Are we, as some have argued, all working in the intersections of disciplines, being ‘interdisciplinary’? Or do we have sharply defined conditions of disciplinary practices? The conference theme aims to encourage critical perspectives that challenge the term, ‘interdisciplinary’. For art practice, what  does it mean to work between, under, through and without discipline?

The sessions that might emerge from such provocation might include:

  • The history of art history as an interdisciplinary practice
  • The practice of art – what does it mean to work between, under, through or without ‘discipline’
  • The future of discipline
  • Research and discipline
  • Inter-subjectivity, -pretation, -lace, -face, -sect, -gration
  • Threats and promises

The organisers encourage session proposals from a broad set of practitioners in Art, Design and Architectural History, Art Practice to engage with and challenge the term ‘interdiscipline’. AAANZ welcomes the participation of independent scholars, interdisciplinary artists and scholars, curators, museum scholars and educators.
