The University of Sydney invites applications for the Sydney College of the Arts Postdoctoral Research Fellowship 2012 A new Postdoctoral Fellowship is being offered to attract an outstanding researcher to conduct full- time research at Sydney College of the Arts at the University of Sydney. Applicants must have received their doctorate within the last six years.

Aims and Status of the Fellowship
The Fellowship is a highly competitive award that is advertised internationally. It contributes to SCA’s strategic plan to build its research capacity to the level where the College is a globally significant hub of research in practice-based and contemporary-arts research. The successful applicant will be based full-time at SCA for the duration of the Fellowship and will take an active role in the research culture of the College and must not hold a concurrent paid appointment.

Term of Appointment
The Fellowship will be available from August 2012 (the starting date may be negotiable out to February 2013) for a 3 year fixed term.

Eligibility and Assessment Criteria
Applicants must have a doctorate awarded from a national or overseas institution dated no earlier than 1 August 2006. Those who cannot provide evidence of having been awarded their doctorate at the time of their application are not eligible.

Applicants seeking to join the University from another organisation in Australia or from overseas are eligible.

Applicants currently employed at the University of Sydney who commenced such employment after the award of their doctorate are eligible to apply, provided the doctorate has been awarded within the previous six years.

Applicants who have a doctorate awarded by the University of Sydney within the timeframe specified above and who are working at other institutions are eligible to apply.

Applicants must have an outstanding track record, relative to opportunity. Strong preference will be given to applicants with an excellent record in practice-based research in a contemporary creative- arts context. SCA is seeking a scholar or artist-scholar who will contribute to the College’s emergingresearch concentrations, preferably in one or more of the following areas:

  • new approaches to the artistic understanding of space, including public or civic space;
  • new approaches to curation as a contemporary creative-arts practice;
  • new approaches to art criticism, art theory in relation to contemporary creative-arts practice.
